 60 minutes Module 1
  Introduction to the Program and the Role of Customers
 Presenter: George Heinrich, The Postal Professor
 

In introducing this new interactive training program, Mr. Heinrich presents an overview of the program, the responsibility of participants in group and individual exercises, and the role of operations in serving, informing, training, and partnering with customers. Participant worksheets focus on rating your company and sharing challening customer scenarios.

 

 60 minutes Module 2
 

The USPS - Your Uncontrollable Business Partner

 Presenter: George Heinrich, The Postal Professor
 

Staying current with proposed and actual postal regulations is a key to success for mailing operations. In this workshop section, George discusses the DMM; how regulations impact your business, your customers and mailpiece design; the value of training customers and staff; and mailpiece acceptance issues. Participant worksheet focuses on how well you deal with the USPS.

 

 75 minutes Module 3
 

Equipment and Staffing

 Presenter: George Heinrich, The Postal Professor
 

This workshop section begins with a discussion of the selecting the right equipment to match customer needs and expectations and how to maintain that equipement properly. Also discussed will be operator training, maximizing throughput, having the right software, and calculating the ROI for new equipment. Followed by discussions of finding the right people for the job, training them properly, team building, management and leadership, the value of temporary help, and calculating the cost of an employee. Participant worksheet will focus on calculating labor costs.

 

 90 minutes Module 4
 

Management of Processes and Systems

 Presenter: George Heinrich, The Postal Professor
 

Developing, using and updating Standard Operating Proceedures (SOPs) are critical to quality and success. George begins this section by reviewing and giving examples of SOPs. Discussion of the necessity of having SOPs mesh into and operations-wide system - looking at the whole, not just the sum of its parts. Examples will be given of system flow charts that enhance the processes that make up the system. Also reveiwed will be measuring the process, quality, and correcting errors.

Module 5

 

Specific Department Processes

 Presenter: George Heinrich, The Postal Professor
 

This workshop section is dedicated to helping participants develop specific processes for all major aspects of mailing operations - laser printing, addressing, tabbing, inserting, housekeeping and maintenance, handwork, bindery, fulfillment, warehouse, etc. Also included are processes for front office, sales, customer service and accounting.

 

 45 minutes Module 6
 

Other Items and Wrap-Up

 Presenter: George Heinrich, The Postal Professor
  In this final section, George discusses cleanliness and safety, facility issues and business recovery. The participants finish by discussing case studies of sucessful companies and reviewing assignments. All participants also have their own plans of action that they may share with their peers for additional input.
