Listserve Policies

Listserve Discussion Forum Guidelines
By signing up for any of MFSA’s listserves, the user agrees to observe and abide by the following guidelines and policies.

MFSA’s Discussion Listserve is a forum for sharing business-related conversation and interests with MFSA members from around the world. There are no extra fees or charges from MFSA associated with using this service. It is a member-only benefit.

When posting a question on the listserve, users are asked to please put a good description in the subject line that includes a key word or term. This will help ensure that those who can provide assistance read the posting and will allow it to be more easily retrieved from the listserve’s archives.

Users must identify themselves at the end of their message with, at a minimum, name and company. Other contact information is welcome.

Users are advised to exercise good judgement when deciding whether to post something that may be of only limited interest to all or most users of the listserve. For example, when someone asks if a colleague can respond to the listserve on a particular topic, it is generally unnecessary to send a "me too" message indicating an interest in the response. Other discussions that are not business related are also inappropriate. As an example, a discussion about one's favorite sports team is likely to generate multiple responses, but is also likely to annoy other users of the listserve who don't want their e-mail box cluttered with irrelevant postings. As a general rule of thumb, a good question to ask before posting a comment is "If I were someone else reading this posting, would I find it to be of value to my business?"

Users should remember that while the listserve is limited to members only, anyone can forward a listserve message to any party outside the membership. Therefore, this should be considered a Public Forum. A user’s communications may be seen by Internet users around the world, and users are responsible for the content of their communications.

When posting messages on the MFSA Discussion Listserve, uses should bear in mind that THEY CAN BE HELD LEGALLY LIABLE FOR WHAT THEY WRITE. For example, if a user posts defamatory comments about someone, they may be held legally accountable for them.

By subscribing to an MFSA listserve the user accepts the conditions below and agrees not to post material that:

  • Infringes on any person or entity’s copyright, or other intellectual property. By posting material, the user warrants that they own the copyright or have obtained permission from the copyright owner and that they grant MFSA and listserve users the non-exclusive right to reproduce the material.

  • Contains unsolicited commercial messages. If a user has a service or product they believe someone may be interested in, they should contact them directly via private e-mail or other means.

  • Is defamatory, abusive, threatening, embarrassing, or causes distress or discomfort to any person, entity, product, or service.

  • Is false, fraudulent, illegal, obscene, sexually explicit, unprofessional or is otherwise inappropriate for this forum.

  • Interferes with the ability of others to do business, including, but not limited to, disclosure of any trade secret or interference with the contract of another.

  • Could reasonably be construed as a violation of federal, state or international law prohibiting anti-competitive activities or unfair trading practices. The MFSA Discussion Listserve should be considered by participants to be an on-line meeting subject to the same guidelines that prevail at MFSA educational conferences. In addition, the user agrees not to use the web site to impersonate any person, or communicate under a false name or one that they are not authorized to use. Users also agree not to post job openings or other job related announcements.

By subscribing to the MFSA listserve, the user agrees to release, hold harmless, indemnify and defend the Mailing & Fulfillment Service Association, its management, officers and employees from any and all legal or civil actions and penalties arising from messages the user has posted on the MFSA Discussion Listserve.

MFSA does not actively monitor the site for inappropriate postings, and does not on its own undertake to control editorial content of postings. However, in the event that such postings are brought to MFSA’s attention, MFSA will take whatever actions necessary to prevent future inappropriate postings.

MFSA reserves the right to terminate access to any user who does not abide by these conditions.
